This year's early summer has been unusually dry and sunny, the weather for this Piha Beach engagement session being no exception. Jemma, Michael and I started off their pre-wedding shoot by climbing up to a lookout overlooking the busy beach. It was a Monday evening, but the shore was buzzing from people soaking in the sun.
The tide was still coming in as we descended to the beach, leaving us uncertain about how far in the water we could go without being completely drenched by the strong waves inching their way further and further up. Michael skilfully calculated the sets, knowing which wave would be a killer every time. I have to admit, I enjoyed the riskiness and taking photos of these two running from the waves. The only thing I was slightly worried about was my gear.
It was such a pleasure hanging out with Jemma and Michael. As most couples tend to say to me, they initially felt they'd be awkward in front of the camera, but I think they absolutely nailed it. I'm really looking forward to capturing their wedding next year!
