Whiti & Richard's New Zealand elopement is something both Laura and I were looking forward to. Their plan, before Covid restrictions, was to have their wedding ceremony at Ginagin followed by reception at a vineyard near the Hunua Ranges. They had almost all their family travelling from outside Auckland and having postponed the wedding twice already, they decided to move forward with the elopement.
From the moment we met Whiti & Richard, we hit it off straightaway and really wanted to work with them. When they decided that they'd like to go ahead with the elopement, I had to put my thinking cap on to figure out the best way to capture the day and tell their story. As a New Zealand elopement videographer, creating an elopement wedding video can be quite challenging - as the options to shoot people other than the couple is fairly limited. But this is also where, especially with the help of your amazing couple, you can embrace creativity. And that's when I came up with the idea to interview them both, to tell us the story of how they met! And it worked out so well - it really helps set up their elopement film nicely.
Both Whiti and Richard arrived at Ginagin with their fur baby Mahu - and they designed and made their own outfits for the wedding! When they told us on our Zoom call that this is what they were planning, we couldn't wait to see what they came up with - and we weren't disappointed. Whiti's dress was minimalistic yet gorgeous and Richard's outfit was super quirky. They walked in together for their ceremony, which was so well planned - they moved around to different locations within the area to showcase the different elements of Gingin's beautiful gardens. After a short break, we headed off to the Hunua Falls for their wedding portrait shoot after which we headed back to the venue for their interviews and a cheeky, unplanned first dance.
